Taste of India is another of my “old standby” restaurants. I am a lover of Indian food – the spices and flavors. Cardamom, coriander, saffron, cinnamon, cumin, coconut milk curry. Taste of India is not transcendently elegant. Just really good and satisfying every time I go. They have a quality which I admire – consistency.
Favorite dishes here: Royal Biryani – a flavorful rice, saffron, raisins, peas, cashews and meat, almost analogous with Chinese fried rice but much less pedestrian. Palak masala – a thick spinach based curry which they do exceedingly well. Chicken tikka – their tandoori cooking is right on target.
Some Indian restaurants do not sweeten their chai. Taste of India serves it sweet, and they keep it coming. It is sometimes my primary reason to go there. Endless chai. Delicious.
Also count me as a lover of their kheer, the rice pudding dessert. Here it is milky, not too thick, and the flavors are clean. Pick up some of the sweetened fennel seeds on the way out, and chew em up. They are good for the digestion. A fitting after dinner mint.
